218 N Dianne: Lizah's Room
I've been slow at posting pictures of our house, mostly because I've been slow at getting things done to our house. The finishing touches might never be finished, but s-l-o-w-l-y things are getting done. Having a baby is a good way to get the catch-all room cleared out (and moved to the next room over). Lizah's room was previously a nursery for a little baby named Scarlett. We looked at the house before we announced I was expecting and it was kinda fun to see the room as a nursery because we didn't have to wonder where we'd put the baby. The room was cute and the wall color acceptable, but it feels good to put a fresh coat of paint on everything and I like the walls much better white as it makes the small room feel more open and airy.
I wanted to have a theme for the nursery and was initially thinking I'd do something related to plants. If it was a boy I could incorporate Bible verses about strong trees and for a girl I thought there would be verses about blooming or flowers. But honestly there weren't many verses that directly connected growing plants with growing children. There are a lot of neat parallels between the two, just not necessarily specific verses you can pull to emphasize the theme. In addition to that discovery, my mother-in-law mentioned that she'd like to make a quilt and as I looked online at fabric bundles I wasn't seeing anything that would really go with the neutral plant-themed nursery I was envisioning. However, it was more important to me that the baby have a hand-made quilt so I started opening my mind to other ideas based on the bundles available. One day while driving over to see Bandit I noticed some roadside sunflower-like blooms bursting into the sky. They were such a cheery sight and I decided that sunflowers would be a good central theme since the baby had already brought me such joy. Things started falling in place and now the nursery is our little escape to country life.
