Life on State Street
Time is flying quicker than I can document what is happening! For a while I’ve been wanting to post some pictures of where we live because I want to have an easy way to remember this place and I want to share it with you. I always enjoy being able to picture where my friends/family live; it somehow makes the distance seem just a little smaller.
I’ll be honest, the curb appeal isn’t great. The first time we came to look at the house it seemed on the shabby side. Walking in the front door revealed all white walls, lots of wood in the kitchen, and brown carpet. I like neutral colors, but I knew that a house of white and browns wouldn’t feel too homey. Little by little we’re adding or, in Seth’s case, building, things to make it feel like ours. And it does. I love this little home and I love sharing it with Seth. The location is wonderful–two blocks from the Waibel Farmland Services office where Seth works–so most days he bikes to work and I occasionally walk or bike down for something. He usually comes home for lunch and it makes us both happy. In the long run we’d both like to end up in the country, but for now it’s working out so well to be where we are.
One thing I really appreciate about his house is that there are lots of big windows to let in natural light. Also the layout is pretty open for the most part with the front door opening into the living room. There are two little stubs of wall that separate the living room from the kitchen and dining area. Behind that whole spread is our bedroom and the guest bedroom, which by the way isn’t pictured so if you’re wondering what that looks like I guess you need to come visit and see it for yourself! Around the corner from the kitchen is our laundry, utility/storage closet, and bathroom.
Yes, there are dirty dishes by the sink and there’s roasted corn just sitting on my stove. We live here and it’s not always tidy. (Which might be the real reason there’s not a picture of the storage—er, guest–room.)
The Monday after we got back from our honeymoon was Memorial Day so we spent a fair amount of the time doing yard work. Seth tilled up a garden that we planted in the afternoon. It’s been so fun to watch it grow and to recently be gathering some of the fruit!
I won’t spend all day bragging about Seth, but in case there is any doubt in your mind let me assure you he’s a really good guy.
A few weeks back we had our first overnight guest. The one and only Edie Aline. She came home with us after a visit to Michigan over Father’s Day and it was a grand time. We painted, took pictures, baked, played the piano, and went on a picnic to Riverbend completed with some kayaking. It was a fun two days with my sweet Edie.
For those of you wondering, I am planning on finding a job. Since Seth is working it hasn’t been a super pressing issue for me to find work right away and I’m grateful for Seth’s patience and understanding as we settle in. However, now that summer vacation is over and some of the “stuff” that happens with marriage (name change, new license, etc.) is sorted through I’m ready to look more actively. In the meantime, there’s been alot going on. I’ve had the opportunity twice to go with Seth on farm visits. Not only do I get to spend all day with him, I also get to learn a lot about crops and farming.
Life is great on State Street. We don’t spend all of our time here, but we do like the feeling of coming back to a house that is familiar. A house that we have decorated, cleaned, organized, and lived in together. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life on State Street but right now it’s exactly where I want to be.
