Seasons

Seasons are changing and there’s no more denying it. In the physical realm, I can clearly see that the corn is starting to turn brown and the pumpkins Mom picked from the compost pile are a glaring reminder in the barn that summer is on its way out. The cooler weather has been gorgeous lately, I’ll admit that. (Textbooks can actually be enjoyable when read in the shade by the creek!) But it’s sad to see summer come to a close.
In other respects, seasons are changing in life. Yesterday I headed to Illinois for a singing shower and personal shower for my dear cousin, Mimi, who is the first of the “Three Musketeers” to get married. Today as we sat around the brunch table sharing memories we have with Mimi I realized how many moments we’ve shared over the years. I laughed so hard it hurt my mouth. And even then I couldn’t stop laughing. I’m overjoyed for Mimi and Josh; this weekend it was great to see them together and see where they’ll be living. I know that with our history, a bond goes deep enough that not even marriage can break. Our memories together are all but over. Yet it’s a new season.
Knowing that I’ll be moving to Michigan in January, and for the first time in my life surrendering my bedroom to somebody else, also has me thinking about more changes to come. Overall, I’m really excited for the new adventure. C is in such a fun stage, running  everywhere, expanding his vocabulary, trying new things, showing so much personality. Still, it will be an adjustment to come “home” for a visit and have to pack my clothes. That new season is a few months out, but change is brewing all the same.
No matter how the seasons come and go, I cannot be grateful enough that my God is the same today as He was since the beginning of time. It’s cliche, but it’s still true. When my spiritual life is in a bit of a dip, He’s still good. And when everything is falling in place, He’s good. He is always good. And seasons are good because they’re ordained by God and they are necessary for growing, renewing, and resting.
